Spring Semester

Students, you all played wonderfully at the Christmas Recital! What a great opportunity to give glory to God celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ! You did a fantastic job in bringing the Christmas spirit to my studio and spreading it to families and friends!

With Christmas season of gift-wrapping, baking, parties, it’s also time to plan the Spring Semester – a total of 16 classes. I am enclosing the new Spring Calendar: The ORANGE dates are class dates, the WHITE dates are No Class dates and the BLUE Dates are Recital and Festival dates. Please write these dates on your calendar.

Spring Semester also means time to prepare for Piano Festival. The New Mexico Federation of Music Clubs sponsors the Piano Festival. The students play two pieces by memory in front of two adjudicators (judges) to be evaluated with a score of 1 – 5 pts plus comments about their performances. The student earns a trophy when s/he reaches 15 points, a minimum of 3 years. To cover the Festival fees, please add $20 to the first month of the tuition fee. We’ll have a Pre-Festival Recital two weeks before Festival. The End of Semester Recital will be end of April instead of my usual time of end of May. As the semester progresses I will provide more information.

I will not be out of town for all of the “No Class” dates so keep those dates as possible make-up dates especially if you prefer to end the semester earlier than the week of May 21st. These “No Class” dates may also be used as a substitute for the last week in May or for any other week that you know you will not be attending class. Contact me so that we can solidify a plan.

Book Payments: I am making a change on reimbursement for piano books. Instead of handing out receipts to students of purchased books, I will be adding a form in their notebook called “Piano Studio Book Reimbursements.” You may pay as you see a new item on the form.

The Spring Schedule has slight changes on the times for some students. Please check to see if the minor change affects your schedule.

Thank you all for your progress in your piano lessons. I look forward to more creative and skillful playing in the Spring 2018 semester. For now, enjoy the Winter Break and I’ll see you all in January 2018!
